Ava Torch - Bands - Rock
|
Pop with poise. Cabaret but cool. Melodramatic blues blend with girl-group nostalgia, jazz, rock & theatrical lyrics, to make an effortless Torch-pop sound!
Ava Torch (AKA Amie McKenna) is the newest diva of Australian music. A Jeffrey Joynton Smith Award winner and Sydney Theatre Award nominee, a career on screen and stage along with a passion for blues, rock & vintage pop have given her the stage presence of Bette Midler and the moxie of Deborah Harry. Ava has made music with the likes of Deborah Conway and Tim Minchin but it was a stint singing German cabaret above a dodgy pizza joint that got her mentioned in Jim Sharman's "Blood and Tinsel" placing her in the same pages as art & rock legends Andy Warhol & Lou Reed. Now she emerges from Sydney's underground with catchy originals that tell a story. In a voice that is "emotionally rich" ( Real Time Arts Magazine), Ava sings about love with an honesty that is charming, epic & seductive. Ava does not deliver alone "...there is on-stage chemistry and communication rarely found with support talent to a rising star" (Musica Viva). With blues wunderkind Nic Malouf's bold rock sound, skin pounding, gender bending Tanya Coates on drums, mod-rocker royalty Aidan Noyes on bass and Hamish Lane & Mark Lawrenson (Sydney Philharmonic choirs) on backing vocals The band drive a punchy backup.
